This is Sipitang Bay, shared between Brunei, Sarawak, Sabah and a small Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan. It's also a giant parking bay for idle ships. Just see below pics .........

These ships sprang up like mushrooms after rain. There were more and more in Nov - Dec '08 when the credit crisis got more intense. I took this shot with my ....... mobile ( shhhh! ) this morning flying from KK to Bintulu. I tried to count but lost count after 50. Ya it was that many!

The glass is half empty or half full?

The world stock market looked doom and gloomy last autumn. The KLCI was not spared either. However, note starting the month of Mar 09, we see a solid gain. How this is possible when the world economy is still far from a recovery? Some say the stock market is the barometer of a country's economy in 6 months, but it's hard to believe recovery can come so soon after such a devastating effect on the US housing market. But whether recovery is near or not, we should not waste the opportunity to reassess our investing portfolio. Clearly a healthy gain is possible with KLCI posting a solid 22% gain since Dec 08. Now compare that with 2%/p.a with our current FD.

Note the other major indices have been posting good return lately especially Hang Seng and Nikkei.

I've been following this indie band from Norway for more than a year and it's great they have been signed up by a proper label. Check it out.

ASM report card

Amanah Saham Malaysia ( ASM )
3.33 billion units were on offer of which 51% was allocated for Bumiputras and 49% to non-Bumis. The Chinese, like all kiasus, bought all the allocated 999 mil units. The Indians 53.5 mil units of the allocated 499.5 mil while the Bumiputras only 7.65 mil units of the remainder. Why the huge disparity?

Random nonsense

Another teaser photo. My cat and my Les Paul, they do share some similarities.

Sustainnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Watch this video and be dumbfounded by the unbelievable sustain of this guitar ( note 1:54 ). This gem is of course one of the legendary '58~'60 Les Paul 'Burst - The most valuable electric guitar in the history of money!

This particular one is from 1959.

Kahakkkssss .... pttuii!

Events leading to the latest Perak political fiasco has reminded me of the sleezy behaviours and mindset of our local Malaysian politicians. They deserve no respect from me and the utmost detest I can lash out to these individuals is my spit ......... kahakkkssss .... pttuii! It's been long since I last commented on our country's political scene. Today will be the last.

First Stay

A picture speaks a thousand words. But a picture can also hide a thousand flaws. Using a super wideangle lens the Tune Hotel marketing team has successfully created a sense of space offered in their KK One Borneo Tune Hotel rooms.

Peggie and I booked ourselves into Tune Hotel for both our stop over nights in KK. The corridor leading to the rooms were really RED.

Ok I'm not exactly trying to advertise Tune Hotels or anything but just glad that we were able to find a cheap hotel to stay over amidst these bad economic times.

So here it is. See just how crampy the rooms are? One person could hardly walk around the bed. At least the bed was first class. Seriously.

My food trip

Happy Chinese New Year to all! I always look forward to going back to Sandakan. This year we put in more fun factor by driving back for Chinese New Year. It was great! 6 hours from KK to Sandakan didn't seem like 6 hours at all with all the beautiful and breathtaking landscapes to take-in especially from Tamparuli to Telupid.

Along the way, the must stop is of course Ranau for the famous Ranau KFC .... dare I say the best KFC in M'sia!

Appetite for destruction. The leftovers after a good meal at KFC Ranau.

The busy Ranau KFC joint.

Nothing beats Sandakan mile 4 hawker food. This is the MBH ( minyak bomb hantu - translate that to Cantonese! ) stall.

Another favourite at the mile 4 is the "wo tiea" or fried stuffed dumpling.

Mixed rice dinner for ta pau.

Porkie fans in Labuan ......... nah take this!

Tung Ma restaurant at Tanah Merah famous for their fried noodles, vermicelli and kuey teow.

The Lotus

A casual stroll at the Labuan Botanical Garden resulted in this simple photo. Captured with my old trusty Nikon F5 with a 70-300mm lens on Fuji Velvia slide film.

44th POTUS

The African slaves were treated like commodities. For more than 250 years they were bought and sold as their masters wished in America. They have endured intense sufferings, mentaly and physically. In the 1950's and '60s civil unrests broke as blacks demand equal rights among the whites. Who could imagine that one day a black American will be their President? Today that struggle reached its greatest achievement as the first black American will be their commander in chief. Can you imagine just how historic the inauguration of Barack Obama as President of The United States is? After 8 years of Bush crap, $160 million spent on Obama's inauguration is probably well justified.

I will be watching it on tv tonight. History in the making. Dr Martin Luther King's dream really came true.
